This pandemic and quarantine took a toll on all of us. Almost every single one of us ended up doing something we’d never do under normal circumstances. From cooking to giving ourselves haircuts, we tried to draw our attention away from the fact that there was a pandemic going on and we were in a state of house arrest, except it was by choice.
I too end up taking an online adobe Photoshop course during quarantine. I didn’t even know what I was going to do with the knowledge of Photoshop (probably make myself look slimmer in photos). Last night I was scrolling through social media and stalking profiles of all those Instagram makeup gurus. Maybe I was bored, maybe it was quarantine effecting my brain, I ended up photo-shopping photos of these makeup gurus; removing just lipsticks from the finished make up look.
It was shocking as to rest full face of makeup looked nothing without lipstick. In all the makeup tutorials, I watched, they put in so much effort in blending the foundation and concealer and working on eyes, lashes and that winged eyeliner, all of it looked secondary compared to lip gloss/lipstick. Lipstick was the determining factor in making the whole look chic and fancy.
This got me thinking how prevalent use of lipsticks and lip-glosses is in our life. For many low maintenance humans like me, the only makeup staple is a lipstick. If this product is so widely used then why safety standards for quality lipsticks are ignored. It is a common practice for many cosmetic brands; they don’t put expiration dates on lip gloss boxes and sometimes even fail to mention the ingredients on the box as well.

Some brands make their lip-glosses with cheap ingredients and retail it at a high price, failing to mention those ingredients and an expiration date on their lip-gloss boxes.
Average woman eats up to 9 pounds of lipstick in her life and if that product contains harmful chemicals, it can lead to severe health conditions. They say beauty is pain (and it’s BS) but it shouldn’t be life threatening. The current situation requires FDA to intervene and make stricter guidelines, rules and regulations for packaging of lipsticks and lip-glosses. Lip-gloss is that one cosmetic product I can’t imagine living without but I want to have peace of mind while using it, that it is safe for me. There are some packaging firms, with ethical business practices, that follow complete set of guidelines from FDA and mention all the ingredients on the packaging. Cosmetic companies should outsource only these companies for packaging. Cosmetic boxes packaging provides stylish lip gloss boxes, fulfilling all the criteria stated by FDA, at very economical wholesale rates.
